An AI agent launched to close the critical operational gap between an inventor’s initial idea and a formal patent opinion.

Traditional patent searches often take days. Leaving inventors, especially those without deep IP knowledge, feeling stuck in a “black box” while valuable time is lost. The Novelty Checker is designed to ground the initial opinion in data instantly, accelerating the first step so human experts can immediately decide how to proceed.

The tool features a highly simplified interface that requires no specialized search language or syntax. Users input an invention disclosure using plain text and natural language. Rather than scanning a limited sample set, the agent processes the query against the entire Minesoft global database of 190 million documents in just seconds.

The system delivers an immediate, easy-to-follow opinion in plain language. The report details a summarized overview, an anticipation analysis, a risk assessment, and specific novel aspects of the idea. If an invention lacks novelty, the tool isolates the specific features speaking against it, sorts them by reference, and organizes the competing patents into a clear, visual timeline.

  • Frictionless Collaboration: Users can easily copy the report text or download a comprehensive PDF to attach directly to an internal invention disclosure.
  • Password-Free Sharing: All document numbers within the shared report are live hyperlinks. External colleagues or patent attorneys can click any link to view the cited prior art instantly without needing a separate user ID or password login.
  • Alternative Viewpoints: The same simple, streamlined interface and data-driven workflow can also be utilized to run an Invalidity Search.

Historically, IP screening occurred late in the cycle, occasionally after heavy R&D spending. This tool allows teams to build IP awareness into the earliest stages, catching obvious blockers while ideas are still on the whiteboard. By removing complex technical barriers, non-IP specialist engineers and scientists can run baseline assessments independently to receive immediate, actionable feedback.

  • Data-Driven Team Alignment: Presenting a concrete, objective AI-generated report helps teams align internally. Instead of asking management to take an engineer’s word for it, stakeholders have an objective asset to transform a conversation into a decisive action.
  • Confidentiality & Data Security: User data remains entirely safe. It runs on Minesoft’s own servers within EU data centers, is never used for training information, and operates under a strict zero data retention policy.

While the single-agent Novelty Checker is built strictly for rapid triage, MAIA orchestrates multiple specialised agents working in parallel to achieve an exhaustive strategy, deeper coverage, and complex combinations.

MAIA executes an end-to-end workflow consisting of 10 distinct steps. The user interface features clear operational “flags” where the coordinator stops to request human permission, verification, or screening. This keeps human judgment positioned precisely where it adds the most value.

  • Natural Language Input: The system takes in a natural language prompt for a new filing idea: e.g. a smart home security system utilising AI to screen for anomalies.
  • Orchestrator Clarification Dialogue: Before executing the search, the MAIA orchestrator initiates a dialogue to clarify parameters. The user can select a narrow focus (locating a single blocking document) or a broader approach to assess the inventive step. Date ranges can also be applied or bypassed if unnecessary for novelty.
  • Instant Feature Extraction: In just 1.8 seconds, MAIA extracts the underlying technical features of the invention. The system gives the human operator complete control to edit, delete, or manually type in additional technical features before proceeding.
  • Hybrid Search Strategy Formulation: The system builds a comprehensive search plan leveraging vector-based search to identify contextual meaning rather than just keywords, alongside a series of automated Boolean cluster searches. Every search syntax step remains fully editable by the user.
  • Parallel Execution Speed: Once approved, the specialized agents search the database simultaneously. Though highly exhaustive, the entire end-to-end process across 190 million documents averages only about 5 minutes from start to finish.
  • The Novelty Assessment: The final output provides a clear dashboard showing a comprehensive novelty score along with detailed reasoning.
  • Feature-to-Document Mapping: A highly sophisticated matrix displays the extracted technical features alongside a visual breakdown of exactly which documents retrieve those features and to what precise extent.
  • Inventive Step Obviousness Analysis: The system delivers closest prior art matches per feature and synthesizes combinations of documents. This analyzes whether mixing and matching separate patents would make the invention obvious to a person skilled in the art.

All resulting data and patent lists can be exported immediately or popped directly back into Origin to use the platform’s core legacy functionalities. For enterprise teams building their own internal platforms, Minesoft data and agents can be integrated into corporate workflows via standard APIs or through the Model Context Protocol (MCP).
