Included in This Guide:
Sharper data. Richer context. Faster answers.
This spring’s PatBase updates are designed to give IP professionals deeper insight, faster. Whether you’re mapping standard-essential patents, navigating complex claims, or interrogating technical drawings, these updates put more power at your fingertips, right where you need it.
Check out the updates:
- Smart Images – AI-powered parts identification in patent drawings
- SEP Data – 14 new standard-setting sources and enhanced search
- Classification Searching – highlighted CPC and IPC results
Understand exactly what you’re looking at
Smart Images: AI-powered image recognition, now built directly into patent drawings.
Patent drawings contain critical technical information, but manually cross-referencing reference numbers to the description is time-consuming and error-prone. Smart Images changes that.
When viewing an individual image, a Parts List now appears automatically on the right-hand side. Using AI-based image recognition, PatBase identifies reference numbers within the image and maps them to the corresponding content in the document, instantly giving you the context you need without leaving the drawing view.
The experience is fully customisable: toggle the Parts List on or off, adjust its opacity with a slider to keep the drawing clear, and reposition individual labels by clicking and dragging. It’s patent intelligence, precisely where you need it

The most comprehensive SEP coverage yet
SEP Data: Broader sources, richer filtering, and smarter searching for standard-essential patents.
Standard-essential patent analysis demands comprehensive, reliable data. This update delivers exactly that, with 14 new standard-setting organisations now integrated into PatBase: IEEE, ISO, CCSA, OMA, IMT, OneM2M, TIA, ATIS, ITU-T, ITU-R, IEC, IETF, ANSI and TTA.
Two new columns, Source and Company, have been added to the SEP table, making it easier to slice and analyse declaration data by origin. You can now search directly by standard-setting organisation using the SEP=(ETSI) syntax, giving patent professionals precise, targeted retrieval across the full SEP landscape.
See exactly what matched and why
Classification Searching: Visual confirmation that your classification search did exactly what you intended.
When running classification searches, the matching classifications now appear highlighted directly within your results. No more scanning through dense classification strings to confirm a hit, the relevant codes are immediately visible, giving you fast, confident verification that your query captured exactly what you intended.
