Minesoft is pleased to support The Times Intellectual Property Report

Minesoft were pleased to support a recent supplement in The Times newspaper covering topical issues in the Intellectual Property (IP) world. The report, produced by Raconteur in partnership with INTA and CIPA, covers a broad range of topics including the modern phenomenon of NPE’s (Non-Practicing Entities) known colloquially as “patent trolls”, the special importance of IP rights and patent protection for the pharmaceutical industry and the impact of Brexit on IP rights.

The supplement was published in celebration of World IP Day on 26th April 2017 which aims to promote the role that intellectual property rights play in encouraging innovation and creativity. The theme for World IP Day in 2017 was to learn about ways in which innovation makes our lives healthier and safer.

The IP system encourages innovation by attracting investment, rewarding creators and supporting them as they develop their ideas. This is highlighted in the final article of the supplement covering the importance that IP rights and patent protection hold for the pharmaceutical industry. Bringing a product from idea to market is extremely expensive, time consuming and has a high rate of failure across each stage of the process. Hence, the 20-year monopoly provided by patent protection is essential for them to recoup their investment.

At Minesoft we’re keen to encourage innovation, especially if it can make people’s lives safer, healthier and more comfortable. Hence, in 2010, we partnered with the World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO) in the ASPI programme to give researchers in developing countries free or low-cost access to sophisticated tools and services, like PatBase, for retrieving and analysing patent data.

As a business we were recently received a regional award from the Richmond-Upon-Thames for best in Innovation, reflecting the effort we make to constantly enhance our portfolio of patent solutions for an optimised user experience. This effort was rewarded in 2009 and 2015 when Minesoft received the prestigious Queen’s Award for Enterprise for an outstanding achievement in rapidly growing export markets in the field of Intellectual Property information.

Minesoft add powerful Semantic Search module to PatBase

Minesoft has developed a new, powerful Semantic Search module for PatBase, the advanced search resource used worldwide by patent experts and professionals to research patent documents in-depth. In addition, Minesoft has added it to the user-friendly PatBase Express, used across corporations, making it easier to unlock information in the full text of millions of patent documents. Now PatBase will unearth hidden patents that could be missed using a regular keyword search. The Semantic Search option identifies relevant concepts from any given text-based query and suggests corresponding associated technology areas for the patent families identified; complimenting keyword and patent classification searches by locating additional pertinent documents. The user remains in control of the process by selecting concepts of interest, adding new concepts and selecting suitable technology areas. The module improves search accuracy by using the contextual meaning of terms and the searcher’s intent to generate ever more relevant results.

Robert Poolman, Global Innovation Senior Manager at Minesoft, added: “The new Semantic Search module in PatBase provides an attractive alternative approach to uncover relevant patent information to the use of keywords or precise patent classifications. We believe this is going to benefit not only occasional users, who are looking to get a more focused starting point into the patent world, but also very experienced patent research engineers and chemists, as a way to expand on and interrogate a given subject. Not only that, it is a great help for speakers of any language to search complex patent literature. ”

Minesoft announces Non-Patent Literature Module for PatBase

Intellectual property information specialists Minesoft have released their new Non-Patent Literature search module making it easier and more efficient to uncover relevant prior art when applying for patent protection or fighting against patent infringement. Minesoft has added the new search capability to PatBase, giving users access to 12 major sources of non-patent and scientific literature including Science Direct, Scopus, PubMed and Google Scholar.

Using a basic keyword search or an advanced multiple field search, users can identify relevant literature from a variety of key innovation disciplines including medicine, agriculture, general science, computing & engineering. Covering clinical trials, conference publications, journal articles and thesis documents, the new module grants unparalleled access to scientific literature alongside the 100 million plus patent documents already within PatBase; thus enhancing the efficiency with which PatBase users can search and identify relevant literature and ensuring PatBase users always have emerging technology trends at their fingertips.

The module automatically de-duplicates non-patent literature identified across multiple sources and provides the ability to export data in Excel or RIS format. According to Global Innovation Senior Manager, Dr Robert Poolman “the addition of the nonpatent literature module to PatBase gives our users access to a wealth of knowledge from many different disciplines and which can be searched from the same PatBase platform, making it easier and more efficient for our users to uncover relevant prior art.” The NPL module is fully implemented within PatBase and PatBase Express and is available at no additional cost to all subscribers.

NEW Enhancements to PatBase and PatBase Express

New Non-Patent Literature Module

A new Non-Patent Literature module has now been added to PatBase and PatBase Express, making it easier for our users to broaden their searches and strengthen their foundation of knowledge in areas of interest. Accessing over 12 sources of non-patent & scientific literature, including ScienceDirect, PubMed, Scopus and Google Scholar, a PatBase or PatBase Express user can easily search for relevant patent and non-patent information in the same platform.

New Semantic Search

Discover hidden patents with our new semantic search module, recently added to PatBase and PatBase Express. From any text based query (e.g. an abstract, a set of claims), the Semantic search option identifies the relevant concepts and suggests technology areas within which the patent families identified fall within. Rather than a black box, the user remains in complete control and has the ability to select concepts of interest, add new concepts of interest and select the technology areas of interest. Semantic Search offers an interesting new way to expand and further explore subject searching for anyone using PatBase and complements keyword or patent classification searches by locating additional pertinent documents.

New PatBase Thesaurus

The new multi-disciplinary thesaurus combines Chemical Search, Language Explorer, Dictionary and Thesaurus into one easy to use product, allowing you to drill down further into areas of interest. The service allows users to identify and add synonyms, keywords, acronyms and translations of particular terms to a PatBase search strategy, optimising the way our users search for patents. PatBase and PatBase Express Users can utilise a type-ahead functionality to search for a term(s) of interest, identify synonyms and search selected synonyms.

Collaborate more effectively with our new Export and Sharing functions

Minesoft has recently launched a new Export module within PatBase, making it easier to export patent data and enabling a higher level of customisation. Legal status information can now be included with options to filter this information by country/date and the ability to include a link to the legal status timeline for the patents of interest.

In PatBase Express, it’s now possible to share results, add results to folders and search within a folder.
